Tokyo offers a unique blend of safety, culture, and curiosity-sparking contrasts, where centuries-old temples sit beside cutting-edge design and cozy cafés. This is a city that rewards slow wandering, with excellent transit, respectful locals, and countless moments of quiet magic in the midst of the buzz.

Deb N. says, “Tokyo is cheaper than you think! Go and enjoy a few hours dressing up in a traditional kimono for fun. Don’t bother with the river boat trip. Sky Tower is good, and the Imperial Palace Garden is rather lovely.” Find more Tokyo tips for women in our Women’s Guide to Japan.
